A step up: junior high

Project Amigo junior high scholarships are available to poor children who graduate from rural primary schools in the state of Colima, Mexico, with a grade point average of 9.0 out of 10. To continue in the scholarship program students must: maintain an 8.5 grade average, perform community service, and behave respectfully toward their teachers, other students, and their school. And every student who receives a scholarship from Project Amigo must attend a weekly Homework Club. These clubs provide students with tutoring and mentoring. But most of all, they provide us with a way of keeping in close touch with the students so we can identify problems before they become so severe that the student is forced to drop out of school.

High marks, high school

Much like our junior high scholars, our high school scholarship recipients from Colima must graduate junior high school with a grade point average of 9.0 or above. To continue in the scholarship program, they must also maintain that 8.5 gpa, attend a weekly homework club, perform community service, and behave respectfully toward their teachers, other students, and their school. You get the picture: we have high standards for high school education. We're looking for them to go even higher!
